POM growth will fuel rural industries

The predicted growth of Port Moresby into a booming metropolis will fuel rural agro industries to feed the capital city.

And the Port Moresby International Business Summit will provide the stage for investors looking to invest in the sector.

Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce CEO, David Conn, tells Loop PNG that one element they are looking at is how other provinces could feed the predicted growth of the capital city.

He said our closest neighbours have developed on the back of such industries and investing in PNG could also develop our own as well as lessen our dependence on imports.

“Those expertise in the far North of Queensland, there’s expertise in New Zealand, so close to us, and these are economies that have struggled and they have made themselves very vibrant on the back of that,” Conn said.

“I mean Australia did it on the back of sheep, New Zealand did it off the back of a fresh active environment, clean healthy environment; these are some of the things we want to learn from a summit like this.”

The Port Moresby international Business Summit will be from August 22nd to 23rd at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Australia.
