The Australian War Memorial is preparing for a busy period with commemorations to mark two significant World War Two anniversaries.

On Friday 25th August, the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Milne Bay will be commemorated with a special last post ceremony and a new exhibition.

The 30th August will acknowledge 75 years since the tough Kokoda Campaign in PNG, which lasted for several months.

The director of the Australian War Memorial Dr Brendan Nelson spoke to ABC Radio Canberra Breakfast host Jamie Travers about the upcoming WWII anniversaries and why they are so important.
