International Builder and Road Construction Company, China Railway International Group has made inroad into New Ireland Province concluding two days of intensive discussions yesterday with the New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan and his Technical Team on the planned development of several major impact projects in the Province.

The high level meetings that began in Port Moresby last week among the technical teams from China Railway and New Ireland Province drew the top technical executives from the company represented by the acting Deputy General Manager, Mr. Tony Mu, Business Manager, Mr. Lance Wang, Project Manager, Mr. David Liu and Chief Engineer, Mr. Xiaoming Lin.

The PEC Chairman for Transport and Infrastructure, Hon. Sammy Missen said the discussions centred on the Provincial Government’s proposed major projects including the New Ireland Government Offices, Kavieng foreshore development, New Ireland University, Kavieng Sports Stadium and the new Kavieng Market.

The New Ireland Technical Team included the Provincial Administrator, Mr Lamiller Pawut, CEO for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Albert Essau and Director, Jamie Philip, were joined by officers from the Department of Works including the Provincial Manager, Mr Solomon Pela and Civil Engineer, Mr Collin Dickson.

In a brief to the Governor, the CEO for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Albert Essau said the teams discussed the technical and engineering aspects of the projects and especially the proposed Government Office complex and structure of a possible working partnership to undertake the project.

Governor Sir J assured the China Railway team that his Government is serious about development within the Province and will not enter into any agreement without the financial capacity and said New Ireland is able to put up the money to finance the projects.

He said his Government wants to work with serious partners in developing the Province and change the mindset of New Irelanders and Papua New Guineans by the words of the Chinese Proverb, “A journey of a thousand miles start with the first step,” and that this is one of the punch lines that the New Ireland Government is taking to develop a truly autonomous province in Papua New Guinea.

In revising various discussions and issues the Governor and Chief Missen met with the Works and Infrastructure team to fast track and update the Government on all the roads and the Tinkoris Health Centre. As well the Governor expressed his concern about the slow progress of road sealing by Dekenai Construction and completion of the Balus Bridge.
