Muruks Take Lead for Earthquake Fundraising

Intercity-Cup competition team PRK Mendi Muruks have dedicated 25 days to raise funds to assist Earthquake victims in Southern Highlands.

Prior to the start of the official competition, Team officials made the announcement on the back of a declaration of a State of Emergency for areas affected by a series of earthquakes this week.

The Mendi Muruks will be hosting a series of fundraising drives in Port Moresby and Lae, beginning this Saturday.

Rugby league is the country’s national sport. Rugby League has also has also united warring tribes in many parts of Papua New Guinea.

Intercity-Cup Team, PRK Mendi Muruks has witnessed first-hand how the sport has unified Mendi during years of tribal fight in the area.

The team will be using the sport to raise funds for victims of the recent Earthquake that shook the province and other affected areas as well.

The team will start its 25 days relief program in Port Moresby at Apex Park this Saturday from 3pm-5pm and are calling on all city residents to come and show their support.

Issac says the fundraising programs will be extended to other affected areas of Hela, Enga and Western Provinces as well.

The team will also be donating a certain percentage of its merchandise sales towards the fundraising.

In addition, a bank account will be opened, and a facebook page created under the theme; Southern Highlands, Yumi Bung na Kirap Wantaim.
