Hundreds in Popondetta, Oro Province have braved the scorching heat, turning up in numbers from far and near to witness the historical opening of the Girua Airport.
The opening ceremony will be officiated by Prime Minister Peter O'Neil.
The delegation comprising of Oro Governor Gary Juffa, Ministers and the Executive Management from National Airports Corporation arrived from Port Moresby this morning for the occasion.
Many described the occasion as a milestone development.
The airport has been upgraded with the support of Asian Development Bank, the government of PNG and the Provincial government of Oro Province.
