The country’s dairy producer Ilimo Farm is on the roll with its full cream milk at half price in Port Moresby’s major supermarkets.
A month since it hit the shelves, Ilimo dairy milk is already selling well in Port Moresby, according to operator Innovative Agro Industries director Ilan Weiss.
“At Ilimo dairy, our team is overwhelmed with the support we have received from the community.
“The milk has been selling very well in Port Moresby and many customers are commenting on its incredible flavor,” Mr Weiss said.
“We are aware that we need to continue creating awareness for consumers in Port Moresby on how to transport and store fresh milk, especially keeping the milk refrigerated.”
Mr Weissa said with the previous experience in the Port Moresby market of UHT (ultra-high temperature processing) milk, it will take time for consumers to realise the difference between the two products.
“They will appreciate that Ilimo milk is a superior product. This is why locally produced milk is at a higher price than imported UHT milk,” he said.
Mr Weiss said retailers have been supportive and provide excellent feedback of customers.
“We worked closely with retailers two weeks prior to Ilimo Fresh Milk being available for sale to give as many shoppers the opportunity to taste free sample of our product.
“Local retailers have been fantastic and we are thrilled at the response,” he said.
All aspects of production take place on the farm where over 100 hectares of land is being cultivated for feed, with processing, packaging, and distribution facilities on site.
The farm is producing 6000 litres of milk a day and this production figure is said to double.
“The next products to be released will be a 250ml fresh milk bottle and fresh milk pouches and flavored fresh milk,” Mr Wiess said.
