Landowners of portion 1653 under the urban development lease (UDL) that comprise 86 hectares of land made available the land to accommodate the proposed new modern suburb development of Mt Hagen city.

That was revealed by S.K.Kagl and Associates Limited managing director Sandy Kagl last week.

Mr Kagl said portion 1653 has clear titles with landowners ready for development under Melkum Limited, which is coordinated and managed by S.K.Kagl and Associates, which sought funding to develop the land, he said.

Mr Kagl said portion 1653 was an alienated land in the Kerebulk area of Mt Hagen city comprising 86ha. It has not been developed since it was acquired from the Jika Maipgel sub-tribe of the Jika tribe, who were traditional landowners since 1969, he said.

Mr Kagl said this portion of land available within Mt Hagen city boundaries was one of very few undeveloped state lands that need funding to be fully developed for residential, industrial, commercial and institutional use.

The shortage of fully serviced urban land, strategic location and economic growth of Mt Hagen city is creating an increase in the city population and workforce, causing an acute shortage of residential allotments for housing, he said.
