More protected trees were uprooted on Sunday along Ela Beach to make way for the redevelopment of the beach front. Traffic along Ela Beach to Downtown was diverted, while heavy machinery and workmen carefully worked away until the trees were felled. One onlooker, said that it was very sad to see the trees been removed as they were part of the iconic land mark where families would seat under while enjoying the sea breeze and shade.

“It is probably for the best interest of development to take place but it is sad that the original landscape is gone forever especially after most of the trees are now been cut down,” the onlooker said.

The trees were felled by 1pm allowing traffic to flow again which was to the satisfaction of the public using the public transport system who had to walk in the early morning part of the day from the Ela Beach fuel station to downtown, Port Moresby.
