The leader of the Spirit of Rabaul robbery has surrendered to police following community effort in bringing law and order to the community.

Kokopo Vunamami Urban Local Level Government Mayor Diuvia Kopman together with the Kokopo District Development Authority CEO John Talele assisted in facilitating the surrender of the robbery leader.

Provincial Police Commander Joseph Tabali is now appealing to the village leaders to also assist in bringing the other four remaining suspects to the police.

The suspect Keket Simon was the leader of the armed robbery last week at Spirit of Rabaul warehouse in which managed to get away in a waiting vehicle with over K30, 000 in cash and items.

Four suspects were apprehended on the day of the robbery including two women who conspired with the criminals and hired the getaway vehicle.

Keket Simon from Ulagunan ward in Kokopo district aged 24 surrendered himself on Saturday last weekend.

PPC Tabali said Keket was also charged for the robbery of Tzen Niugini in 2016 where a large amount of money for the wages of the company’s workers was stolen.

He has been on the run since the Tzen robbery last year.

The public are being called on to assist the police in the province to come forward with information of their whereabouts for their own safety.

Tabali applauded the efforts of the town leaders and the Ulagunan leaders for their initiative in assisting the police.
