Two men suspected of raping a young girl at the PNGDF Goldie Barracks in NCD three weeks ago have been arrested by police.
The young girl’s rape was the subject of a confrontation between soldiers and police officers three weeks ago at the Boroko police station when the soldiers brought in a suspect to the station.
The men’s arrest was welcomed by the NCD metropolitan commander Chief Superintendent Ben Turi, who said any sexual assault reported to the police proves to be a hard task for officers speaking to victims.
“Most times I do not wish to give out such stories but when suspects have been arrested and charged…it is a bonus to get the perpetrators who do such violence especially against our women and young girls.
“For these two men, their arrest comes after a long investigation by the Boroko CID,” Mr Turi said.
“A suspect was brought in to the police station by the girl’s father. However, we had to do more investigation which we did until we finally got the two suspects,” he said.
Mr Turi appealed to parents of young girls and teenagers to know their daughters’ whereabouts.
“Always know who they are talking to via their phones, on Facebook and other social media sites,” he said.
