MISS Pacific Islands Pageant Papua New Guinea (MPIP PNG) has announced its second contestant, Miss Institute of Business Studies (IBS) Rosemary Pawih, last week.

Miss Pawih, 21, from Manus Province, is a student at IBS University (IBSU) and was crowned Miss IBS at the university’s pageant on August 30.

This is the second consecutive year that the university has held its own pageant to select a young woman to be an ambassador of the institute at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG.

Miss Pawih is studying Business and is enrolled under Southern Cross University degree program in collaboration with the university.

“As a young woman full of dreams and striving for success, I have goals and ambitions that I am currently working on to achieve and make a reality…my education is a priority because it determines my future,” she said.

“My goals are to achieve good grades in my studies here at IBS University, graduate with a bachelor of business degree majoring in marketing, and build a career that will enable me to empower other young women in our society. There are a lot of issues affecting women in the country, hence, I wish to be their voice and hope that they can be heard and be valued women in society.”

The MPIP PNG chairwoman, Molly O’Rourke, thanked Miss Pawih and IBS for their support this year.

“The crowning ball will be on November 11 at Crowne Plaza, and we will be announcing more contestants in the coming weeks,” she said.

“As we did last year, local designers who participated in the Project Runway will assist our contestants with their wardrobe. Rosemary’s stylist will be Ms Annette Sete of Lava Girl, Kokopo,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“We have a long association with the IBS that has assisted us over the last few years. I am delighted once again to welcome them onboard as part of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG family this year.”

Vice-chancellor, Edward Silva, said that the IBS University was very proud to sponsor its own student for the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG.
