THE INDIAN Association of PNG has given K300,000 for the rehabilitation of the Gerehu Hospital in Port Moresby.

The donation was part of funds raised on Saturday night to give to charity organisations in the country.

Indian Association resident Omprakash Seshadri told the Post-Courier the K300,000 will be used to renovate the children’s ward and painting of the hospital.

“Primarily the K300,000 is the total collection we have done in the Indian Night event, and adding other collections we have a total of about K120,000 which we are going to donate.

“This will be for various charitable organisations. The Gerehu hospital is where we are planning to paint both inside and outside, with more focus especially on the children’s ward,” Mr Seshadri said.

The injection room is currently not available so we are trying to renovate especially for the patients and we can make sure that we can get all the facilities absolutely right and apart from that we are also looking at another surgery room, he said.

Mr Seshadri said they are looking for revenues to do the renovations and was anticipating an amount of K30,000 to K40,000, but have so far raised K300,000 instead.

“We are also donating K25,000 to the PNG Children’s Foundation. It is not a cash handout but tangibly doing something in the foundation which is located at Six Mile.”

Mr Seshadri said the association will work with the childrens’ foundation to identify what the necessity needs for the children are.

“We will also be donating to Anglicare, Sisters Charity, PNG campus societies, and Soroptomist,” he said.
