Morobe Province has two deputy governors, one duly recognized by a decision of the Lae National court and another appointed by the incumbent Provincial Executive Council.

Acting Provincial Administrator Sheila Harou says she is aware of the dual deputy governors in the province.

“Yes I am aware of the court ruling. Government has been advised. We are attending to the issue,” she said.

Former Morobe governor Luther Wenge is questioning the legality of having two deputy governors and an illegitimate administrator without financial and administrative mandate to run the affairs of the province.

Mr Wenge said the legality of the position of the deputy governor relates to a ruling by Justice Ambeng Kandakasi in the Lae National Court that Judas Nalau, the Yabim-Mape LLG President of Finschhafen district remains the president of Yabem-Mape LLG and subsequently the deputy governor for Morobe.

He said the court ruled that the election of Waka Daimon, Watut LLG President as the new deputy governor was null and void and that Mr Nalau be reinstated as the deputy governor.
