Better co-operation on the policing and management of the border between Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands is to be one of the main components of new bilateral programmes to be set up later this year.

During a recent visit to Port Moresby Solomon Islands prime minister Manasseh Sogavare and his PNG counterpart Peter O'Neill agreed to a review of existing bilateral arrangements.
These include grant assistance, police training, human resources development, agriculture quarantine and research and trade and investments.
Government officials from both countries are expected to work on reviewing these programmes and coming up with new initiatives.
Some of the other proposed programmes include development cooperation, judiciary services and People To People relations.
