The Post Courier reports a 40-year-old man from the Western Highlands Province has been charged with being in possession of the cartridges.

The man, who doesn't possess a firearms licence, was passing through a security check at the airport when the guards noticed something in his luggage and asked him to open it.

Four boxes of cartridges as well as three single cartridges designed for a shotgun were discovered.

The man claimed he was unaware he was doing anything illegal and was planning to exchange the ammo for gold to assist my family.

The suspect is in custody awaiting his next court appearance after bail was refused.
