Naval ship delivers supplies to villagers

A NAVAL ship left the Wewak wharf in East Sepik yesterday with 650 bales of rice, 198 containers of water, a medical team and supplies for Kadovar islanders on Ruprup Island.
According to spokesperson from the East Sepik Governor’s office Chris Bais families of military personnel at Moem Barracks and locals in Wewak also donated items for the islanders.
East Sepik people in Port Moresby have launched an appeal to collect utensils and clothes and money for the islanders.
Bais said women and girls were in need of clothes after fleeing from the volcano and appealed to the public to assist them.
Kadovar, located about 24km offshore from Wewak, started spewing ash and steam since last Friday.
